Queen of cakes Mary Berry CBE is set to reveal the secrets of her student days at an alumni reunion event taking place this weekend at Bath Spa University.
As the President of Bath Spa University’s Alumni Association Mary will reminisce with former students of the University and share her experiences.
Revealing favourite pastimes and recipes from her time studying at Bath College of Domestic Science, which was merged with Newton Park College and later became Bath Spa University, Mary will speak about the impact the college had on her career and aspirations.
The culinary legend, best known for her role as a judge on BBC TV programme, The Great British Bake Off, will reflect on the cuisine of Bath and the city where she was born.
In 2012, Mary was awarded an Honorary Degree by Bath Spa University in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to cookery, and in the same year she received a CBE from the Queen and was appointed Bath Spa’s first ever Alumni Association President.
Ahead of the event Mary said: “I hold dear to my heart the time I spent studying at Bath College of Domestic Science and value the skills and experience that have helped the success of my own career.
“I am honoured and privileged to serve as President of the Alumni Association and am very much looking forward to meeting my fellow alumni at this special reunion.”’
Professor Christina Slade, Vice-Chancellor of the University said: “Bath Spa University has a long history and we are proud of the many illustrious, talented and inspiring individuals who have been part of our story.
“This Alumni Reunion is a wonderful way for friends, old and new, to come together and share their experiences of Bath Spa and we are delighted to be once again welcoming back Mary.”
After studying at Bath College of Domestic Science, Mary moved to France to train at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.
She has written more than 70 cookery books and has appeared on several television shows during her successful career.
The Bath Spa University Alumni Reunion takes place on 21st, 22nd and 23rd August where former students are invited to revisit the University, reconnect and meet with old friends.
Mary will speak at the University’s Newton Park campus on Saturday 22nd August.
