Isla Byrne, a Year 6 pupil at King Edward’s Junior School, has had her hair cut off to make a wig for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or illness.
After having over 13 inches cut off, Isla’s hair is being donated to the Little Princess Trust, who provide real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24, who have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.
In cutting off her hair, Isla has also raised over £800 for the charity, via her JustGiving page (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/susan-byrne8).
Asked why she decided to cut her hair off for charity, Isla said: “I looked the charity up online and I decided to cut my hair off for the Little Princess Trust! I have also been raising money for it as I would like to help children struggling with cancer.”
Greg Taylor, Head Teacher at Isla’s school said: “I am so proud of Isla for her empathy towards others who are less fortunate than us. It is heart-warming for Isla to donate her hair to such a special charity.
“All our Year 6 children, as part of their personal award scheme, are encouraged to help others or to do something to support the community, and Isla’s efforts are a shining example to us all.”
