When No. 15 Great Pulteney, Bath’s newest boutique townhouse hotel opens its doors in December, it will feature two specially commissioned wall murals by King Edward’s A Level artists, Elizabeth Heath-Apostolopoulos and Jamie Mount.
Commissioned by No. 15’s owners, local hoteliers Ian and Christa Taylor, Elizabeth and Jamie’s wall murals feature in two bedrooms on the ‘artists’ floor’ at No. 15 Great Pulteney.
In total eight artists have been asked to transform a wall in the top floor loft bedrooms, using the wall space to reflect their own artistic style.
Situated on Bath’s grandest street, No. 15 will open with 22 bedrooms and behind its elegant Georgian facade the hotel will showcase eye-catching contemporary art throughout the townhouse.
Each bedroom has been individually designed and when it came to considering the design and content of their respective murals, Jamie and Elizabeth were given complete creative freedom by owners Ian and Christa Taylor, who are well known for their support of local artists and the Bath community as a whole.
Jamie and Elizabeth began work on their murals during the Summer. Jamie’s mural, entitled ‘Antares’ features a nightscape emerging from an imagined hole in the wall. Jamie has also created a second artwork for the new hotel, with his charcoal portrait of Marilyn Monroe also on display on the ‘artists’ floor.’
Elizabeth’s artwork is inspired by her Summer trips to Greece, with the mural offering a bird’s eye view of a Greek coastline, worked up with acrylic paints and applied by palette knife.
