Over the last nine years the Human Resources team at the University of Bath has raised £5,847 by holding charity bake sales to raise funds for a range of local and national charities.
Each year the charity is chosen by staff in the HR department, so they are causes close to their own heart.
Local charities such as the RUH Neonatal Intensive Care, Bath Cats and Dogs Home, and Dorothy House have all benefited over the years. A number of national charities have also received money from the fundraisers.
One of the organisers Marcia Martin, Health & Safety Technical Officer, said: “It all started because we were inspired by the Great British Bake Off, and it was a great way to bring the team together whilst raising money for a good cause. It’s a very pleasant thing to do.”
Over the years, the offerings have expanded from just cakes to savoury treats like sausage rolls and quiches.
Alongside the bake sale, a number of other fundraising activities have taken place such as a hamper raffle and a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ competition.
Co-organiser Kelly Macrae, Learning & Organisational Development Manager, said: “It really is a team effort, we couldn’t do this without the support of the rest of the HR department, and all our colleagues from across the University who come and donate.”
