Over the past week, the university’s Images of Research exhibition has been on display outside Bath Spa railway station.
Visitors were able to see the magnified images of particles of carbon fibres that are being used to create more efficient battery storage as well as learn about how psychologists at the university are working with electronic engineers and computer scientists to turn images into sounds to help blind people recognise objects through technology.
The images featured in the exhibition were submitted as part of the Images of Research competition that is designed to reflect a broad diversity of innovative research taking place at the university.
The competition invited researchers to submit a title, image and description that represents their research, its impact, and benefits to society with each category drawing inspiration from the University’s three strategic research themes – Digital, Health and Wellbeing, and Sustainability.
Dean Veall, Deputy Head of Public Engagement at the University of Bath, said: “We’re very proud of all the high-quality research that takes place at the University of Bath and it’s great to showcase some of the best examples within this Images of Research exhibition.
“With projects ranging from carrots to robots, there’s sure to be something of interest to everyone. Be sure to head down to see what academics of the South West have to offer.”
Guy Henderson, centre director at SouthGate Bath, said: “We’re always looking at ways in which we can support our local community and it’s great to be partnering with the University of Bath to bring this exhibition to Bath.
“We hope our visitors enjoy learning more about such important and innovative research and its impact locally, nationally and internally.”
Images of Research forms part of FUTURES, a free festival of events and activities taking place online and across the South West.
FUTURES is a collaboration between universities in the region – Bath Spa University, University of Bath, University of Bristol, University of Exeter and University of Plymouth – which aims to celebrate the research and innovation taking place there.
