Bath College refrigeration apprentice reaches WorldSkills UK final

A Bath College apprentice has secured a place in the national final of a prestigious competition celebrating excellence in technical skills.

Alex Huggins will compete in the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps category at the WorldSkills UK Finals 2026, which will be held at Cardiff and Vale College in November.

The refrigeration apprentice progressed through a competitive selection process open to apprentices from across the country, with only the highest-performing entrants reaching the final stage.

Alex will represent both Bath College and his employer, Cotswold Vale Refrigeration Limited, as he competes against some of the UK’s leading young engineers in the sector.

The competition will test finalists through a combination of practical and theoretical tasks covering areas such as system installation, commissioning, fault finding and safe working practices.

Alex is completing a Building Services apprenticeship and has been recognised for the technical ability and progress he has demonstrated during his training.

Cotswold Vale Refrigeration has supported Alex’s development by providing practical workplace experience and mentoring throughout his apprenticeship.

Bath College also acknowledged the contribution of BESA Group and its work to encourage young people to pursue careers within the building engineering services industry.

Success at the national final could give Alex the opportunity to progress to future international competitions, as well as further developing his skills and gaining recognition within the industry.
