West of England Mayor Tim Bowles is asking employers, large and small, across the region to give their views on how to improve careers advice.
The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) is conducting a short survey as part of its commitment to improving opportunities for all residents, and help make careers advice genuinely useful for employers and potential employees alike.
West of England Mayor, Tim Bowles, said: “Good careers advice can set you on a path to achieve truly great things, broaden your horizons and show you the wealth of opportunities that are open to you.
“It can also help our businesses find the talent they need to grow and thrive and that’s why I’m so passionate about improving the careers advice we provide in the West of England.
“It’s central to my plan to make sure that everyone in the region has the opportunity to be part of our region’s economic successes, no matter where they’re from.
“Of course good careers advice is just as valuable to employers as it is to their future employees.
“We need to make sure that people are making the right choices in terms of the skills they need and showing them the breadth of opportunities that are available, so I really want managers at all levels of the region’s organisations large and small to take part in this survey.
“You’re the people that are the line managers to these new employees, so your help is critical if we’re going to get this right.”
WECA has devolved control for the region’s Adult Education Budget, to help equip adults over 19 with the skills and qualifications needed for life, work, apprenticeships and further learning.
The Combined Authority also runs Future Bright, which is helping people on in-work benefits to improve their career prospects and pay, as well as the Careers Hub, which works with schools and businesses to help young people be better prepared for career opportunities in the West of England.
Research will be used to produce a clear and accurate review and analysis of Careers Education, Advice and Guidance services at all ages across the West of England area.
The Combined Authority will then be able to look at what is needed to improve services, and these can then be considered as potential investment opportunities by WECA and other partners.
If you’re an employer in the West of England and want to give your views on current provision or ideas for future delivery, you can complete this survey before the end of February: https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=158072362731.
