Bath Spa Uni plans new creative hub with student accommodation

Bath Spa University has submitted plans to demolish buildings at Locksbrook Road to make way for a new creative hub with accommodation for nearly 100 students.

The site that will be redeveloped by Bath Spa University

The site is directly opposite Bath Spa University’s existing Locksbrook Campus.

The proposed development site includes the former Plumb Centre, telephone exchange and Bath Veterinary Surgery on the corner of Locksbrook Road and Station Road. A single-storey unit on the site is already in use by the university.

Following demolition, the proposal is for a mixed-use building of up to five storeys.

The proposals submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council include 97 purpose-built student accommodation bedspaces alongside new higher education teaching space and flexible employment floorspace designed to support creative industries and collaboration between students.

A public café for use by the local community is included in the plans. The scheme also includes a green connection corridor from the north of Station Road down to the Herman Miller Building and ultimately onto the River Avon.

The proposals aim to “strengthen the role and offer of Bath Spa University as a higher education provider in Bath and the wider region”.

The planning reference is 26/02556/FUL and the deadline for comments to the council is 17th August.
