Bath Spa Uni is once again teaming up with the Children’s University to offer young people aged 7-14 the chance to take part in its Quest for Fun and Facts trail in Bath on Thursday 26th October from 6pm.
The free to attend event, which takes place at the Roman Baths, sees Bath Spa University team up with a number of local museums and Bath and North East Somerset Council to take children and parents on a journey of discovery during Museums Week.
The evening will give children a first-hand look at the types of activities available in the area as part of an ongoing series of joint events between Bath Spa, the Children’s University and the Council.
During the trail, colleagues and students from Bath Spa University’s MA Heritage Management course, and children from Weston All Saints Primary School, will be displaying objects for attendees to handle and use as inspiration for a short story.
The BSc (Hons) Food with Nutrition Programme Leader, Dr Anil de Sequeira, will also be at the event to feed children’s curiosity and develop their love of learning by presenting them with cricket cookies – an innovative snack made from the unique insect ingredient.
Children will learn all about cricket flour – flour that is made from ground crickets and tipped to become a key food source of the future.
The session will also explore other imaginative uses for cricket flour, including its properties for pasta-making, as they learn about sustainable food sources and are encouraged to think about the everyday task of cooking in a more creative way.
Bath Spa University’s Institute for Education Head of Consultancy, Richard Parker, said: “We’re proud to have partnered with the Children’s University to run events in the Bath and North East Somerset region and are excited to be working together this half term.
“Showing children just how much fun they can have while learning is very important to us and we’re committed to giving young people from all backgrounds a greater opportunity to develop their skills. Who knows, we might even inspire a new generation of archaeologists, writers or chefs with this event.”
The trail is free for Bath and North East Somerset residents with a Discovery Card. Booking is not required. Entry will be through the main doors of the Roman Baths. Doors will open at 6pm with last admittance at 7.30pm. The event is part of Museums Week and Museums at Night.
The Children’s University is a national charity which encourages children aged 7-14 to widen their learning outside the classroom.
It is organised on a regional and local authority basis, and Bath Spa University acts as the local management organisation for the Bath and North East Somerset area.
The University is also developing activities with the Wiltshire, Swindon and North Somerset projects.
