Almost every family has been offered one of their overall preferences for primary school places for the 2021/2022 year, Bath & North East Somerset Council has announced.

Figures show that 99 per cent of applications received one of their overall preferences, with 93 per cent getting their first preference of primary school.

The total number of applications received from Bath and North East Somerset residents was 1,706.

Of them, 1,581 children got their first preference school, 89 pupils were offered their second preference and 15 pupils offered their third preference.

21 pupils were not offered a place at any of their preferences and were offered a place at their next nearest school with a place available. These are known as referrals.

In 2020, the number of children offered their first place was 93.05 per cent.

Councillor Kevin Guy, cabinet member for Children’s Services at Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “Choosing the right school for your child to begin their education journey is such an important decision for families, so I’m very pleased to see that nearly 99 per cent of applications received one of their overall preferences.

“We are fortunate to have a range of effective primary schools across Bath and North East Somerset that meet young children’s needs.

“I wish the soon-to-be Reception pupils the very best of luck at their new schools.”
