Bath Building Society has announced its charity of the year as Dorothy House, with the business working with them until the end of 2014.
Dick Jenkins, Chief Executive of the Society, said: “As a local business, we were keen to find a Charity to work with us and have similar local values to ourselves and Dorothy House was a good match! They are a well organised and well respected group with a big presence in Bath. They touch people’s lives in a sympathetic and tangible way at a crucial time in a person’s life when they need the support the most. We couldn’t be happier that we have chosen them!
“We have already raised £878 from our members who voted online at our AGM so we are well on our way!”
Jen Green from Dorothy House added: “We are delighted to work with the employees of Bath Building Society in raising vital funds for Dorothy House. We need to raise more than £7,000 each day to continue to provide the services to those patients with a life limiting illness and their families, so this support is very much welcome.”
As part of the Society’s commitment to Dorothy House, staff at the Society will engage in various fundraising activities throughout the rest of this year and next year to raise much needed funds for the Charity and their Hospice in Winsley just outside Bath.
Dorothy House is a charity, founded on Christian principles of care. All of their services in the community and the hospice are provided free of charge and with equal access to all.
Their aim is to offer physical, psychological, social and spiritual care to patients and their families facing life threatening illness, death or bereavement, who have specific problems which need specialist skills. In partnership with all others involved, they focus on quality of life, respecting the uniqueness of each person and their family. They seek to promote the development of palliative care through education of others and research.
They are the local hospice charity for Bath, North and West Wiltshire and parts of Somerset.
