Woman is sentenced at Bath court for three road rage incidents

A 28-year-old woman has been given a 10-month suspended prison sentence following her third road rage offence.

Bath Magistrates’ Court

Last week, Bath magistrates also ordered Robyn Jackson to pay £500 compensation to the victim who she struck over the head with a hockey stick. The wound needed stapling.

The incident had begun near the Broadmead roundabout in Keynsham and ended near Newbridge Park & Ride in Bath. It happened on 13th December 2024, but the case only reached court in July this year when Jackson admitted unlawfully and maliciously wounding the other driver and that it was racially aggravated. She had uttered a racial slur.

Jackson also admitted being in possession of an offensive weapon – the hockey stick – without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.

The attack put her in breach of a nine-month conditional discharge which had been imposed in September 2024.  At the hearing in July, magistrates ordered an all-options pre-sentence report to be prepared by the Probation Service.

Jackson, of Marmaduke Street in Bristol, returned to court to be sentenced on Wednesday 23rd September.

The magistrates heard that the two offences for which she was given a conditional discharge involved road rage incidents in Bristol. One charge was a racially aggravated public order offence and the other an offence of causing harassment, alarm or distress.

The magistrates read four character references for Jackson and heard that at the time of the offences, she was not in a good place but is remorseful. There has been no offending since, and she is in good employment and seeking assistance for undiagnosed mental health issues.

Magistrates gave Jackson a 10-month jail sentence for GBH, suspended for two years. For possession of an offensive weapon, she was given a four-week suspended sentence, to run concurrently.

She must also carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the community under a 12-month community order and complete up to 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

She was also ordered to pay a court surcharge of £187 and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85.

The conditional discharge was revoked, and Jackson was resentenced; for the racially aggravated charge she was fined £465 but there was no separate penalty for the other offence.
