The attack happened at about 5pm on Friday, 19th January, when the victim saw a man smashing up a moped in Elmhurst Estate.

When he tried to intervene to stop him, the victim was assaulted and suffered a head injury, which required treatment at the RUH.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help their enquiries.

They would particularly like to hear from drivers of any vehicles that may have been passing at the time, who may have captured the incident on their dash cams.

Anyone able to help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 5218014053. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or report it on-line using the following link bit.ly/1pwX4Zm, quoting the above reference number.

The suspect – a man in his 40s – was arrested on suspicion of wounding and criminal damage. He has been released under investigation.
