Thief tagged and ordered to pay Bath trader £1,000 compensation

A man who stole items from a sole trader in Bath and damaged other goods belonging to her has been ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.

Karl Holmes, 47, appeared before Bath magistrates for sentencing on Wednesday 10th December.

He had admitted that on 10th May he stole candles and beauty products to the value of £2,656 from the Polly Dryden shop. He also admitted causing £404 criminal damage to products.

Magistrates read a financial impact statement from businesswoman Rebecca Cooper, who runs Polly Dryden.

Holmes, who had nine previous convictions, defended himself in court and when asked if he wished to say anything, he stated: “I’m sorry about it.”

Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order. Holmes was given an immediate four-month curfew.

An electronic tag will send a regular signal to a monitoring centre, confirming his presence at his home at Rogers Close, Clutton, between 6pm and 6am.

Holmes must also complete up to 20 rehabilitation activity requirement (RAR) days.

The magistrates made no order for costs or surcharge.
