The trial of a man charged with sexually assaulting a police officer in Bath had to be adjourned as the prison van bringing him down from Liverpool wouldn’t have arrived at court until two hours after it closed.

Stephen Sanderson, 46, had been due to stand trial at Bath Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2nd March.
The court heard that Sanderson was in custody in Liverpool on an unrelated matter and although he could be brought down to Bath to stand trial, the estimated arrival time was 7pm. The court shuts at 5pm.
Sanderson has denied intentionally touching a police constable’s leg in a sexual way on 28th October 2024 at Bath.
He has also denied that on the same date he was drunk and disorderly in public in St John’s Road in Bath.
Magistrates adjourned the trial until 28th September.
