A call from a member of the public reporting a man acting suspiciously around cars in Grosvenor Place in Bath led to an arrest on Monday evening.
Police were called to Grosvenor Place, Bath, at around 11.50pm on Monday 17th October by a passer-by who had spotted someone trying the handles of parked cars.
Officers attended and a man was arrested on suspicion of theft from motor vehicle, going equipped to steal and vehicle interference.
Neighbourhood Inspector Adrian Fallows said: “I’d like to thank the witness for calling to report this incident as it happened. Their call led directly to this arrest.
“We will always take information about car crime seriously as we know how much it can affect people’s day-to-day lives having their car off the road for repairs to a smashed window or damaged door.”
Police always recommend locking your vehicle and setting the alarm, if you have one, whenever you leave your car.
It’s also a good idea to clear any valuables from the vehicle and never to leave anything on view.
