Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information after a woman was indecently assaulted as she walked on the Bristol to Bath cycle path near Victoria Bridge in Bath.

It happened at about 7.50am on Wednesday 22nd February and was reported just after 9am.

The 21-year-old woman was walking towards Bath when a man cycling in the same direction touched her on the bottom and rode past.

He was described as a white man in his 40s, of slim, athletic build, wearing a yellow bike helmet and red waterproof coat. He was riding a black drop-handled bicycle.

Neighbourhood Inspector Sarah Treweek said: “I’d ask anyone who was using the cycle path that morning who has any information which could help our enquiries to get in touch online www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5217039944.

“If any other women have experienced a similar incident recently I’d encourage them to report it to us. This behaviour is not acceptable and we want to hear about it.”

Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call.

Insp Treweek added that anyone assaulted in this way while using the cycle path, should get to somewhere busy and call police as soon as they can with a description of the person and which way they went.

She added: “We’d like to see people who use the cycle path looking out for one another and getting in touch with us about anyone behaving suspiciously.”

Officers also suggest that people using the route should be aware of their surroundings and avoid playing MP3 players too loud so they can hear people approaching.
