Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses and information after thieves broke into a house in Bathampton and stole a safe containing jewellery, and then made off in the household’s own car.

It happened sometime between Friday 28th and Sunday 30th October, while the occupants were away.

The stolen car, a Range Rover, was recovered by police in nearby Mill Lane on Saturday night, 29th October.

The stolen items include a number of ladies’ and men’s watches including Brietling, Cartier and Tag Heuer models, and jewellery by Cartier, Roberto Coin, Tiffany and Stephen Webster.

Officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries in the area and completed a forensic examination of the scene.

DC 3222 Alastair Binnie said: “We’re appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Bathampton area over the weekend – especially anyone who saw people transferring from a Range Rover to another vehicle in the car park of The George pub – to contact us.

“We believe at least two people were involved in the break-in and they would have needed another vehicle in order to make off with the safe.”

Anyone with any information which could help police enquiries is asked to get in touch through www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5216241530.

Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call.

Police say criminals have recently been targeting gold jewellery in burglaries and encourage people to keep photographic records of items of sentimental or financial value.

High value items can also be marked with colourless forensic security-marking solutions. Visit www.avonandsomerset.police.uk for more home security advice.
