Avon and Somerset Police have charged a 46-year-old man with the murder of Thomas Downey, who was discovered near the Lower Bristol Road, on Christmas Eve in Bath.
Darrell Richards of no fixed address appeared at court today (Thursday 1st January).
He was remanded in custody to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Monday 5th January.
The body of Thomas Downey was found under an archway, just off the Lower Bristol Road on Wednesday 24th December.
He died from significant head injuries.
A 33-year-old man, arrested in connection with the murder of Mr Downey, was released without charge yesterday.
A third man, aged 37, who was also arrested as part of the investigation, remains on police bail, pending further enquiries.
Police divers have been searching the area near Churchill Bridge to try and find the weapon used during the murder.
Downey’s family travelled down from Manchester to be briefed by investigating officers on the enquiry. They are being supported by a police family liaison officer.
The neighbourhood policing team are working with the local community to provide support and reassurance and to assist with the investigation.
However, officers are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area near to the station in Lower Bristol Road around lunchtime on Christmas Eve.
Police believe the area would have been busy with shoppers and people leaving work early.
If anyone has any information, they would like them to contact the Major Crime Investigation Team on the force number 101.
