Men appear before Bath magistrates for offences including robbery

Two men have appeared in custody at Bath Magistrates’ Court jointly charged with a £5,000 street robbery in Somerset, and with a theft from the Spar in Batheaston.

Dolari Amet, 21, of Woodborough Street in Easton in Bristol, and 19-year-old Manuel Vasile, of Barclays Road in Stapleton in Bristol, were in the dock on Wednesday 29th April.

Magistrates heard that the robbery took place in Taunton on Monday 27th April when a woman in her 60s had her necklace ripped off.

Amet and Vasile are also accused of entering the Spar on Batheaston High Street as trespassers on 14th February and stealing a wallet and a phone to a value unknown.

Amet was further charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance and without a licence in Newport in South Wales on the same day as the robbery.

Prosecutor Michael Collins told the court there had been a cross-border pursuit which ended with a collision.

Amet admitted the three driving offences and indicated he would admit the robbery, which is an indicatable only offence, meaning it has to be dealt with at the Crown Court.

The court heard that Amet was deported last year after previous convictions and had re-entered the country illegally.

Vasile did not enter pleas at the hearing.

Bail was not sought by either man, who had a Romanian interpreter in court. They were remanded in custody to next appear at Bristol Crown Court on 19th May.
