A man has appeared before Bath magistrates accused of committing offences at a church in Somerset.

Ryan Davies was in court on Thursday 25th September in relation to alleged incidents at St John the Baptist in Frome.

The 32-year-old, of Portland Place in Frome, denies causing religiously aggravated criminal damage to an antique altar cloth to the value of £110 on 25th April.

He also denies that on 26th April he used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour which caused the Rev Seamus Hargrave harassment, alarm or distress, and that the offence was religiously aggravated.

Davies also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour, causing the vicar harassment, alarm or distress.

A trial date was set at the magistrates’ court for 1st April next year.

Davies was granted conditional bail.
