Man is sentenced after trying to kick down partner’s door

A man who tried to force his way into his partner’s home in Bath while drunk and then punched her TV was sentenced by city magistrates last week.

The court heard that on 12th November last year, a resident in Milk Street called police after hearing an argument.

Magistrates were told that the prosecution brought against Scott Humphries was “evidence-led” as the victim had never formally supported the police.

No damage was caused to the door, which she opened after he had kicked it. Once inside the property, he deliberately damaged the television with his fist.

Humphries, of Court Orchard in Bratton, Wiltshire, had initially denied using violence to get in, but changed his plea to guilty.

He also admitted intentionally damaging the TV and a further charge of failing to surrender at Bristol Magistrates’ Court, having been released on bail in criminal proceedings on 24th June.

Bath magistrates heard that Humphries had previous offences caused by his use of drugs and now takes Methadone.

The 30-year-old, who appeared before the court in custody last Wednesday, 2nd July, was released after being sentenced.

He received an 18-month community order involving a nine-month alcohol treatment programme and five rehabilitation activity requirement (RAR) days to be arranged by the Probation Service.

He was also ordered to pay £400 prosecution costs and a surcharge of £114.
