A 27-year-old man who assaulted four police officers in Keynsham has been given an 18-month community order and must pay them a total of £600 in compensation.

Jay-Dee Snook, of Caernarvon Close in Keynsham, was at Bath Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 4th March for sentencing.
He had pleaded guilty in January to assaulting the officers in the execution of their duty on 10th December. Magistrates had adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the Probation Service.
The court heard that police had been called to Keynsham after a dispute and found Snook in the road receiving treatment for a self-inflicted cut.
He became agitated and assaulted the officers as they tried to restrain him. He deliberately spat at one of them and was placed in a spit hood as a result.
Statements from the police officers were read to the court, revealing that they had been concerned for Snook’s welfare despite his behaviour towards them.
One said that Snook stood out in his 10-year policing career as being “one of the most aggressive individuals I have encountered”.
Snook, who has previous convictions, was not legally represented. Addressing the court, he said: “I am truly sorry for my actions.”
Magistrates awarded £300 compensation to the officer who Snook spat at and £100 each to the other three.
Snook’s 18-month community order includes 100 hours of unpaid work in the community, a nine-month mental health treatment requirement and a nine-month alcohol treatment requirement.
He must also complete up to 15 rehabilitation activity requirement (RAR) days.
Magistrates ordered him to pay £85 prosecution costs and a surcharge of £114.
