A 45-year-old man who got aggressive and made homophobic comments after being asked to turn down his music has been ordered to wear an alcohol tag.

Lee Pottinger, of Abbots Court in Westbury, appeared before District Judge Lynne Matthews at Bath Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 14th January to admit that on 25th September last year at the Apex Hotel, he used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour, causing harassment, alarm or distress.
He was arrested following the incident.
Representing Pottinger, solicitor Will Palmer said he’d been homeless at the time and had “hit the bottle” but was not drinking now as he is a sole carer.
The judge imposed a community order under which Pottinger will be monitored for 120 days for alcohol abstinence.
He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to his victim for the homophobic abuse, along with £85 prosecution costs and £114 surcharge.
