Man fined for possessing three types of drugs including MDMA

A man caught in possession of three types of drugs has been fined by Bath magistrates.

Craig Starkey, 43, admitted the three offences at his hearing on Thursday 14th August.

On 25th July at Stothert Avenue in Bath he was in possession of 0.85 grams of MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy), which is a controlled Class A drug, as well as 3 .75 grams of amphetamine and 0.82 grams of cannabis, which are both Class B.

The court heard that Starkey, of Canterbury Street in Bristol, has a long list of drug offences but there had been a five-year gap.

He was under a community order at the time of the recent drug offences, which was imposed in May for a burglary committed last year.

The court heard from the Probation Service that Starkey is engaging well under the community order and is motivated to change. The drug possession was considered a “blip”.

Starkey was fined £120 for MDMA possession and £80 for the amphetamine. The magistrates made no separate penalty for the small cannabis.

They ordered the forfeiture and destruction of all the drugs.

Starkey was also ordered to pay a £100 surcharge, but no order was made for prosecution costs.
