City magistrates send prolific Bath shoplifter to jail for 26 weeks

A man who admitted 16 thefts from the same convenience store in Bath over a three-month period has been sent to jail.

Bath Magistrates’ Court

Philip Turner, of Ballance Street at Lansdown, stole items worth more than £900 from the Co-op at Wellsway between 15th April and 28th June.

Representing Turner at Bath Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 22nd July, solicitor Will Palmer said the 41-year-old’s drug problem had become “completely out of control” over the last 18 months.

He said Turner knew he would be going to prison and hoped it would be a turning point and he would get some help while inside.

Magistrates jailed Turner for a total of 26 weeks, which included 10 weeks for the breach of a suspended prison sentence imposed for previous thefts.
