Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal for information after a large quantity of lead was stripped from the roof of a church in Cold Ashton near Bath at the weekend.

At about 4am on Saturday, police received reports of people acting suspiciously in the area of Holy Trinity Church in Hydes Lane.

Officers attended and found two tonnes of lead had been stripped from the roof and thrown to the ground, damaging at least one gravestone in the process.

At this stage it doesn’t appear as though any lead was stolen, though investigations are continuing.

If you saw or heard anything suspicious in the area of Holy Trinity Church around the time of this incident, call Avon and Somerset Police on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5216257229.
