Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for the public’s help after a large number of war medals were stolen from a house in Bath in November 2015, but have never been recovered.
The incident took place in November 2015 but the victim, Leslie Waldron, 79, would like to make one final plea for information.
At some point between November 1st and 30th 2015, unknown offenders gained access to the house in Bath city centre and stole a large quantity of jewellery and a number of medals.
With the exception of an OBE, which belongs to Mr Waldron, the medals all belonged the his father and some of them are engraved.
The medals stolen included:
- Distinguished service medal, engraved around the edge with “WH WALDRON, M34941” (Or similar);
- 1936-39 Palestine Campaign Medal;
- 1939-45 Star (Campaign Medal);
- Atlantic Star (Campaign Medal);
- Africa Star (Campaign Medal);
- 1939-1945 Campaign Medal with Silver and Bronze Oak Leaf (distinctions);
- Long Service and good conduct medal engraved with WH WALDRON, M34941;
- OBE awarded to Leslie WALDRON;
- 4x bronze and 1x silver perfect attendance medals, for 5 years of perfect attendance at “Regent Street School, Plymouth”, engraved with WH WALDRON.
PC Sam Hodson said: “Although this theft took place two years ago, Mr Waldron is desperate for his father’s war medals to be returned to him.
“The medals are a unique record of military service, and some of them are distinctive in that they are engraved with his name and service number.
“These have huge sentimental value to the victim and he would be over the moon to have them back.
“I would appeal directly to auctioneers, collectors or traders to keep an eye out for these medals as they may well have been sold on several times since the theft.”
Anyone with information should call 101 and ask for PC 4872 Hodson and quote crime reference number 5217052345.
