Drink-driver taken to hospital after veering off A37 while twice the limit

A Keynsham man veered off the road in his Ford Transit van while more than twice over the drink-drive limit, Bath magistrates heard last week.

Daniel Wetmore was taken to hospital after the crash, which happened just after midnight on 24th January on the A37 near Clutton.

He was tested and found to have 179 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millitres of blood. The legal limit is 80.

At the hearing on Wednesday 8th July, magistrates were told that the 27-year-old construction company boss already had nine points on his licence for driving without due care and attention in 2024.

For driving with excess alcohol, Wetmore, of Charlton Road, was fined £500 and banned from driving for 20 months.

If he completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course the disqualification will be reduced by 20 weeks.

He was also ordered to pay a court surcharge of £200 and prosecution costs of £85.
