A persistent beggar and an abusive street drinker have become the first people in Bath and North East Somerset to be served Criminal Behaviour Orders.
Jenny Dinmore, 39, of Julian House, was given the three-year order when she was convicted of begging at Bath magistrates court on Monday 1st June. She was fined £50 with £35 costs.
The order bans her from begging in Bath city centre. If she breaches it she is liable for prosecution.
John Donn, 49, of no fixed address, was convicted of a public order offence – being verbally abusive to a Police Community Support Officer in Westgate Buildings.. He was fined £37 with £85 costs.
His three-year CBO bans him from drinking in the city centre; entering Sainsbury’s at Green Park Station; and from acting or enticing others to act in an anti-social manner.
Rhian Williams, Anti-Social Behaviour Officer, said: “We applied for the new orders to help protect the public from these two most serious and persistent offenders, whose behaviour has brought them before a criminal court.
“The District Judge agreed that their behaviour caused, or could cause, harassment, alarm or distress.
“The order will help to prevent them engaging in such behaviour in the future.”
CBO are part of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
The provisions came into force on 20th October 2014.
The CBO replaces the Anti-social Behaviour Order (ASBO) on conviction and the Drinking Banning Order (DBO) on conviction.
