A 34-year-old man has been jailed for three years after being found guilty of armed robbery at the William Hill bookmakers in Fountain Buildings, Bath, on 21st February last year.

Brian Hunter, of Poolemead Road, Bath, entered the shop wearing a balaclava and in possession of a 12 inch knife at approximately 8.40pm.

He then threatened the single employee behind the counter and forced her to hand over more than £500.

Hunter was jailed for 3 years at a hearing on Friday (15th January).

The officer in charge of the case, DC Lisa Matthews, said: “Firstly, I would like to pay tribute to the bravery shown by the employee at the time of the incident.

“Despite going through a clearly traumatic experience, she was able to give us the full description of the offender and what happened which allowed us to quickly apprehend him.

“The seriousness of this crime has been reflected in the sentence passed down.

“Knife crime will simply not be tolerated in our communities and we will act swiftly and robustly to tackle this type of crime.”
