Around 130 drivers were stopped and given advice about child car seat safety in a joint operation run by road safety officers from the Council and the police yesterday.
The event, on the Upper Bristol Road by Argos, saw vehicles carrying children pulled over to allow safety experts to check that the children inside were travelling safely, and to advise drivers on the correct way to install child car seats.
None were found to be in serious breach of the regulations. But two drivers received on the spot fines for minor road traffic offences and one vehicle, which was found to be in a dangerous condition, was issued with a prohibition notice preventing it from being used further.
Sgt Will Stephens, of Bath police, said: “The point of the operation was education, not enforcement.
“It was very positive with many drivers appreciating what we were doing to spread the message that having the right child car seat, properly fitted, is really important to keep children safe.
“Road safety is a force priority and it’s important to make sure people are aware and get their child car seats checked.
“By teaming up with the council to hold these events we can work together to improve safety for all road users.”
