Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal for anyone who was in Bath city centre, in the Green Park area, between 8pm and 9pm on Tuesday 29th August, to come forward and talk to them.

Officers are seeking witnesses to an incident in which a group of visiting students were chased and assaulted by a group of teenagers.

The students were part of a group from Hampshire on a school trip. They have told officers that incident began in Green Park, when a group of three teenage girls – part of a larger group of teenagers – approached and started a fight.

The students have described being chased from Green Park into James Street West, where they met some of their own group who tried to calm things down. This attempt was unsuccessful and the scuffle continued into Kingsmead Square.

The seven visiting students were aged between 15 and 17 and included three girls and four boys. They were left with cuts and bruises and one had his T-shirt torn.

They have described the main suspects as:

  • A girl of mixed heritage appearance, about 5ft 8ins tall, of ‘big’ build, with black hair in a top bun, wearing a black padded jacket and slightly older than the others;
  • A white girl aged about 13, about 5ft 5ins tall,  of small build with black hair in a bun, also wearing a black padded jacket;
  • A white boy aged about 14, about 5ft 9ins tall, with buzz cut hair, wearing a light grey hooded top, light grey jogging bottoms and a white T-shirt.

Anyone who saw the incident or who has any other information which could help is asked to get in touch through the police website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5217198629.

Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call. You could even qualify for a reward and still remain anonymous.
