British Transport Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted on a train travelling between Bath and Southampton.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from two women, who got off the service when it terminated at Southampton just after 9pm last Thursday (22nd September), and are believed to have intervened during the incident.

The train was approaching Trowbridge when two teenage boys began to make lewd comments towards a woman in carriage B, before one of them tried to kiss her.

The teens, who are both white, spoke with Irish accents and are believed to be brothers.

One is thought to be 14-years-old and is described as being of a tanned complexion with floppy brown hair. The other, who is understood to be slightly older, is taller with short brown hair and he was wearing a white vest with grey shorts.

Detective Constable Amy Perry said: “We will not tolerate unwanted sexual behaviour and to see it coming from two teenagers is very concerning.

“It is important we identify these boys so we can speak to them about their conduct and put a stop to it.

“We know two women, who left the train at Southampton, stepped in during the incident and their intervention resulted in the teens leaving the train Trowbridge.

“Their accounts could really help with our investigation and I would urge them, or anyone else who saw what happened, to come forward.”

Anyone with info is asked to call BTP on 0800 405040 or text them on 61016 reference 554 22/09/16.

Alternatively details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
