Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal to try and trace the owner of a kayak found untethered and floating along the river Avon in Saltford yesterday afternoon.

Officers were called at 12.30pm by a member of the public after the empty blue and white kayak was seen floating on its side.

At this stage, there’s nothing to suggest anyone was in the kayak or that anyone is currently missing, but police want to locate the owner to confirm this.

Officers have been working with Avon Fire and Rescue Service and the National Police Air Service, via their helicopter, to carry out a search of the area and have made enquiries with local boating clubs.

If you have any information which may help police trace the owner, please call them via 101 and quote log number 337 of 1st December.
