Local motorists can now book impartial MOTs at Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Fleet Transport depot on Saturday mornings, following an increase of demand to the service.
The depot, at Locksbrook Road, Bath, has been offering MOTs to members of the public on weekdays for the past 3 years.
The impartial service has proved so popular that it is now expanding the service to weekends, initially until October.
Technicians at the depot can carry-out MOTs for cars, minibuses of between 13-16 seats, and for goods vehicles between 3,000kg – 3,500kg.
Because the depot does not offer repairs it means, according to Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert website, there is no incentive for mechanics to find faults that don’t exist.
Cllr Martin Veal (Conservative, Bathavon North), Cabinet Member for Community Services said: “We are very pleased to expand this facility which offers a convenient, reliable, and stringent MOT service to the public and the transport trade.
“Bath & North East Somerset Council will carry out a full MOT safety check for most vehicles, like cars and minibuses.
“Taxi drivers can also have a licensing inspection at the same time as their MOT.
“The Council has been offering an excellent MOT service to the public from our Fleet depot in Locksbrook Road for several years, with many happy customers.
“We are very pleased to be offering these extra booking slots over the summer to help local people make use of this facility.”
From this Saturday (4th July), there will be 4 slots available at 7.45am, 9.00am, 10.00am and 11.15am.
The cost of the MOT is in line with Government guidance.
MOT Class IV (cars); £49; MOT Class V (minibuses 13-16 seats) £55.00; MOT Class VII (Goods vehicles 3,000kg – 3,500kg) £55.00
