Council Set To Take Action Following Parking Survey

Bath and North East Somerset Council is to look into the feasibility of creating a new car park in Peasedown St John, in a bid to reduce some of the parking problems in the village.

Last year more than 300 residents living in Peasedown responded to a survey asking for their views and feedback on parking problems across the village.

The mass consultation was in response to a public meeting in December 2013 set up by local councillors Nathan Hartley and Karen Walker, where attendees raised concerns about parking in the centre of Peasedown St John and any issues in their own streets.

Peasedown councillor Nathan Hartley said: “A large number of respondents supported the idea of creating a car parking area in the top corner of the Recreation Ground (adjacent to Church Road).

“As well as providing parents/carers with a place to park when they take their children to school, it would also be used regularly by those using the football field during the weekend.

“We’ve now discussed this idea with staff at Bath and North East Somerset Council, who have agreed to consider the feasibility of funding such a project in a future financial planning year.”

Specific concerns relating to parking problems in individual streets from the 300 respondents were also presented to B&NES Council Traffic and Safety Officers.

These ranged from parking on pavements, around junctions, and in housing estates near Peasedown St John Primary School at the start and end of the school day.

Cllr Karen Walker added: “Thank you to everyone who wrote specifically about problems in their street, or a street nearby.

“The survey was a useful exercise, which has allowed us to better understand what issues people are concerned about the most, and its given us firm information to lobby Bath and North East Somerset Council with.

“As a result of those who sent back their survey, B&NES Council have agreed to consult on nine new locations for introducting double yellow lines in Peasedown St John.

“As with all public consultations, these shall be open to comments, criticisms and concerns.”

Consultations will start later in the summer on the introduction of new parking restrictions in the following streets:

  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines at the junction of Orchard Way and Westbury View, both sides;
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines on Wellow Lane and at junction with Braysdown Lane, both sides;
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines at Braysdown Lane junction with Tyning Road, both sides;
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines at Church Road junction with Vicarage Gardens, east side of church road and both sides of junction.
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines at Church Road junction with Hillcrest, both sides of junction;
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines on Church Road near number 28, both sides.
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines at Frederick Avenue/Albert Avenue junction with Wellow Lane, both sides;
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines along Wellow Lane;
  • Proposed Double Yellow Lines on opposite side of Laxton Way/Russet Way junction, to include Give Way white markings.

Karen added: “Those of you living near to the proposed locations will see the proposals posted on display on nearby telegraph poles, and will receive consultation slips through your door.

“Please do take the time to respond to the council with your views.”
