Wessex Water is working to replace a 45-year-old water main beneath the River Avon at Bath Marina and Caravan Park, improving water quality and ensuring a more reliable supply for the community.
The existing steel trunk main, laid in 1974, runs under the river adjacent to Lower Bristol Road and was at risk of bursting.
Fencing is currently in place at the nearby playground on Newbridge Road, but Wessex Water says access will be maintained at all times.
Wessex Water’s Louie Cosentino, who is co-ordinating the work, said: “We are replacing an ageing water main that had reached the end of its serviceable life and posed a high risk of bursting.
“This will ensure customers continue to have a reliable water supply for the future.
“Work is well underway and is due to be completed by the end of April. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
