Meticulous repair work is being planned to a Georgian column at the Thermae Bath Spa after it was severely damaged by a lorry during the Christmas Market in December.

The damaged column is on the frontage of the Thermae Bath Spa in Hot Bath Street and is part of the Grade II* listed Old Royal Baths complex.
An application seeking listed building consent has been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council.
It says that on 6th December a delivery lorry for Thermae Developments Ltd reversed into the column, causing “substantial fracturing and loss of column stonework”.
Immediately after the impact, temporary propping was installed each side of the column to maintain the structural integrity of the building, while more permanent repair measures could be assessed.
The planning application says that if it is not repaired, the column will continue to degrade and is at risk of collapsing.
Given the severity of the impact and the structural damage, it will not be possible to repair it in situ so it will have to be carefully dismantled and reconstructed.
The application reference is 25/01084/LBA and anyone wishing to comment on the proposals has until 26th April.
