Walking and cycling improvements in Keynsham delayed until 2027

An eight-month walking and cycling improvement project which had been due to get under way in Keynsham has been delayed until next year as the work is more complicated than first thought.

Galtec Ltd is scheduled to carry out the work linking the A4 to the town centre as part of the West of England Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.

The project is due to be completed in sections, starting from the entrance to the Memorial Park on Bath Hill and finishing opposite the Wellsway Sport Centre entrance on Bath Road (the B3115).

In an update letter to local residents, Galtec says: “Before starting a project of this scale, we carry out detailed investigations of underground utilities.

“The latest investigation has identified a more complex scope of works than expected and a number of services, including drainage and cabling, that will now need to be diverted.

“We’re now working with the owners of this infrastructure to coordinate these diversions as part of the overall programme.

“This will help us to work efficiently and reduces the chance of the project going on longer than planned.

“Because of the number of organisations involved, we believe January 2027 is a realistic, revised start date.”
