Visitors to benefit from new flooring at Bath library following water damage

Installation of a whole new floor at Bath Central Library will begin this week, Monday 24th February, with works planned to minimise disruption to visitors.

Fitting of new carpeting and ‘acoustic’ noise-reducing vinyl will start today and is being managed in stages so that only parts of the library will be closed at any one time.

This essential replacement work comes after the existing floor was damaged by multiple water leaks into the library, which caused damage that could not be cleaned or repaired.

The existing carpet will not be wasted, as after removal it will be cleaned, dyed and reused and its rubber backing recycled into tarmac.

Councillor Paul Crossley, cabinet member for Community Services, said: “I am delighted that we’re able to make this improvement to Bath Central Library which will only enhance people’s enjoyment of this important community facility.

“We are working with our contractors to keep disruption to a minimum and the work will be done in sections so that people can still use as many of our facilities as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause but hope that residents are happy to bear with us while we make our library an even better place to read, learn and gather together.”

The flooring installation is expected to last approximately five weeks and different parts of the library will close depending on where flooring is being laid at that time.
