St John Ambulance is looking for new volunteers to bolster its team of first aiders as it provides cover for Bath Rugby matches throughout this season.

The charity needs 24 fresh recruits – a dozen each for its groups in East Bristol (Warmley) and Bath – and you can apply online now.

The charity’s Area Manager, Craig Wilkins said: “It’s a great time to join St John Ambulance, as we’ve taken on some exciting new duties alongside our regular voluntary work at venues like Bath’s Theatre Royal.

“We’re getting busier and busier, locally – particularly now we’re supporting home fixtures at the Recreation Ground – and there are lots of opportunities to venture further afield, including events like Somerset’s carnivals, music festivals in the London Marathon’

St John Ambulance opened a £636k operations and training centre in Warmley in November 2016, providing a modern, well-equipped venue for the former Brislington, Keynsham, Kingswood and Longwell Green Units.

The charity has also recently refreshed its purpose-built facilities in Bath.

“We believe no one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it,” Craig added.

“St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

“As a new first aid volunteer you will be trained to a high standard to provide first aid treatment to patients at events covered by St John Ambulance in the community, at concerts, sports events etc… at local, regional and national level.

“No previous training is required – it will all be provided – we just look for a desire to help people and the readiness to deal with situations that can be distressing.”

The deadline for applications is Thursday 30th November and a selection session will be held in Bath on Sunday 10th December, followed by induction and training courses in January and February 2018.

Both the Bath and East Bristol Units meet on Tuesday evenings. For more information about these volunteering opportunities, contact Craig via email: [email protected].
