SouthGate is to hand out a hundred free violet-coloured gin and tonics this Saturday, 4th August, with shoppers invited to get their hands on the beverages at the Ultra Violet Bar near the Apple store.

The giveaway, which starts at midday, will mark SouthGate’s partnership with local bar and distillery, Bath Gin Company, on the launch of a striking limited edition ‘Ultra Violet G&T’ to celebrate summer at the centre.

The Ultra Violet G&T is made from purple Bath Gin, served with tonic, kaffir lime leaf and crystallised violet petals over ice.

The drink has been designed by specialist mixologists to match the shade of the centre’s beautiful wisteria walkway, down St Lawrence Street North and St Lawrence Street South.

The flower-filled spectacle features over 40,000 wisteria vines and will be at the centre until September – along with floral phone boxes and hanging baskets.

Guy Henderson, centre manager at SouthGate, said: “Gin is a firm favourite, so we’d encourage everyone to come down early to make sure they get their hands on one.

“Ultra Violet G&Ts all round will be a nice way to relax and soak up the atmosphere here at SouthGate!”

Visitors should be quick as the drink will be given out on a first come, first served basis, with only one per person.

The exclusive gins will only be available to over-18s and people may be asked to show ID.

Locals who claim the free drinks are being asked to Instagram a photo of them against the wisteria backdrop using  the hashtag #ultravioletgin.

Ultra Violet G&Ts will be available to purchase from the Ultra Violet Bar bar throughout the summer, priced at £7.50.
