Three fire engines from Bath’s Fire Station were called to reports of a blaze in the kitchen of a property in the Oldfield Park area of the city yesterday morning, but thanks to smoke alarms the occupants of the house were unhurt.
When crews arrived in Faulkland Road, they found a well-developed fire in the kitchen of the property.
Four firefighters in breathing apparatus used two high pressure hose reels and a 45mm jet to extinguish the fire.
A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.
Fortunately the couple, both in their 60s, who live in the house, heard the smoke alarms, which had been fitted by Avon Fire & Rescue Service, activating.
They quickly closed the kitchen door to prevent the fire spreading and left the building. They were unharmed.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after a fault with a dishwasher.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service are taking the opportunity to remind people about the importance of working smoke alarms.
They activate at the first sign of fire giving people the chance to escape, especially at night.
Avon Fire & Rescue carry out free Home Fire Safety Visits where staff will visit your home to discuss fire safety and fit free smoke alarms if required. To find out more click here.
A team from the British Red Cross Emergency Response Team also attended the incident to provide support to the couple.
