Local Bath charity the Carers’ Centre is holding its second sponsored walk on 21st October, to raise awareness and funds for family carers, with walkers being given the option of 3 or 6 mile routes.
Walkers will raise money to support local people who are caring for sick, disabled or frail loved ones.
The walk will start at 11am and will head down the cycle path to Saltford where walkers can finish at the Bird in Hand Pub or turn back to Bath.
Carer and mum Anna Sheppard and her family have signed up for the upcoming event.
“I decided to do the walk this year because I have been involved with the Carer’s Centre for nearly 9 years both as a service user and a volunteer, and their work is invaluable,” Anna said.
Chief Executive Officer Sonia Hutchison says she hopes the walk will raise awareness of the charity’s work as well as funds.
‘We want to make the walk as accessible as possible so it is free to enter, and we only ask that entrants try to raise £25 sponsorship.
“But you can still walk even if you don’t hit the target! Obviously we’d love to raise as much as possible but we also want people to get involved with their community,’ she said.
“Our walk last year raised over £3,000 which was a great result for our first sponsored walk. We hope we can smash that target this year!”
The Carers’ Centre provides support to more than 4,000 carers from the BaNES area, helping them to manage looking after someone by offering information, advice, counselling, peer support groups and breaks.
The charity also supports young carers aged as young as 5, who will often help with extra duties if they have an ill or disabled sibling or parent.
Entries are now open and the centre is actively looking for more walkers. Participants can enter via here or can contact the fundraising office via 01761 431 388 or [email protected].
