Three rugby legends have signed up to take part in The Rugby Sportive to help Bath Rugby Foundation continue to carry out their life-changing work.
Former Bath Rugby duo Phil de Glanville and Matt Perry will be joined by Welsh Rugby icon Andy Powell at the Rugby Sportive, when hundreds of cyclists will help raise funds for the local charity.
The Rugby Sportive, taking place on Sunday 7th June, has been created to give riders three routes to choose from, a family fun day with numerous attractions and competitions together with live music from a variety of musical artists.
All the money raised will go towards Bath Rugby Foundation’s work with vulnerable children and young people in Bath.
Former British Lion Andy Powell will cycle one of the three scenic routes, which have been planned and put together by organisers, Martin Smith and Mark Barnett.
Former England Rugby captain and Bath centre player Phil de Glanville, who scored 53 tries across his 189 games played for Bath and won 38 caps for his country, will also be swapping his rugby boots for cycling shoes and taking part in The Rugby Sportive.
Joining these two players and supporting the Foundation is Matt Perry. The former England, Bath and Lions full-back is a man who Bath Rugby Supporters will remember for eternity.
He proudly won 36 caps for England, three for the Lions in Australia in 2001 and made 221 appearances scoring 561 points for Bath Rugby between 1995 and his retirement in 2007.
All routes will start and finish at Corsham Rugby Club and will pass a number of rugby clubs, some of which will be offering facilities for pitstops with both sweet and savoury offerings, together with plenty of hydration.
Three routes, (circa 86 – 61 – 25 miles) along scenic country lanes and through ‘chocolate box’ villages will cater for riders of all abilities.
The fun is not restricted to those on two wheels – you don’t need to ride in order to be involved in the day; there will be all types of entertainment and refreshments at Corsham Rugby Club, from face painting, bouncy castles, indoor and outdoor bars, BBQ’s afternoon tea, live music and a mini rural Olympics to name but a few.
