A new free solo exhibition of paintings by Ukrainian artist Alina Maksimenko has gone on display at the Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa in Bath, in collaboration with online contemporary art gallery Axle Arts.
The exhibition is in financial support of displaced Ukrainian artist Alina, who was forced to flee her hometown Irpin, near Kyiv, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The invasion led to Alina having to abandon everything she owns, and following a seven-day journey, she is now sheltering in Vienna.
With powerful and figurative artworks ranging from ‘Dance for Pina’ and ‘Cherry Garden’ to ‘Apple Orchard (diptych)’, Alina’s often large and elegant paintings occupy dark spaces.
Lorraine Jarvie, General Manager at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa comments: “It is a huge pleasure to host the work of the impressive talent that is Alina Maksimenko – and in support of such a worthy cause.
“We take our corporate social responsibility seriously – we embrace the opportunity to collaborate with Axle Arts in helping Alina as she takes refuge from the war, all while paying homage to her illustrious, international career and wonderfully inquisitive and thoughtful impressions.”
Local residents and visitors are invited to see the artworks at any point up until the end of the exhibition on 5th June.
