Work to complete the new pedestrian and cycle routes on the A4 Upper Bristol Road is set to take place next week, with final road and cycle lane markings being installed.
The road will be closed for one night on Monday 9th January between 7pm and 7am, between Marlborough Lane and Charlotte Street, to finish the markings.
The closure is taking place at night to minimise disruption for residents and businesses.
The works are part of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s active travel scheme to make walking, wheeling and cycling along the Upper Bristol Road easier.
The local authority has also notified residents and businesses that improvements to the pedestrian refuge island at the Charlotte Street and Monmouth Place junction have provisionally been booked to start on 16th January, for one week, with three-way, manually controlled traffic signals in place.
These works were delayed to avoid causing disruption in the lead-up to Christmas.
The active travel scheme includes new types of bus stops not seen before in the city which operate by the cycle lane running between the bus stop and the pavement.
Crossing points for pedestrians have also been improved with new continuous footways introduced along the route.
Councillor Sarah Warren, Deputy Leader and cabinet member for Climate and Sustainable Travel, said: “The road and cycle lane marking works are the finishing touches to our Upper Bristol Road improvement scheme which helps people leave the car at home and make cycling, wheeling or walking an easier choice.
“We are sorry for any disruption while the works are carried out. The works are weather-dependent and we will update people further should the schedule need to change.
