The hole on the road along Richmond Place in Lansdown is close to St Stephen’s Primary School.
It is believed the sinkhole is around two to three feet deep.
Surrounding residents were alerted to the hole by passersby, who were then able to move vehicles away from the scene.

A boundary wall near the hole has also cracked.
A report was filed on FixMyStreet notifying B&NES Council that the road was starting to sink on Friday 28th February, with photos showing the damage.
An initial update from the local authority said: “We’ve looked into this report and are investigating the issue. We will update this report once we decide what action to take.”

An update on 14th March says: “Regarding the highway and footway no further action will be taken at this time but will be monitored on routine inspections.”
Speaking this morning, Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for highways at Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “Safety is our top priority and our contractors are currently on site assessing the situation.
“Until this assessment has been carried out, we are unable to give an indication of the length of time the road will remain closed.”
