Bath & North East Somerset Council is set to carry out extensive resurfacing work on roads in Twerton, Southdown and Oldfield Park next month, with roads being closed from 7am – 7pm each day.
A number of roads have deteriorated and are now in need of major repair. In total, a mile of road surface will be replaced in Monksdale Road, Beckhampton Road/Oldfield Lane, Dartmouth Avenue/Millmead Road (including the Lyndhurst Road Junction) and Lymore Avenue.
Councillor Neil Butters, joint cabinet member for Transport Services said: “People living in these areas will be fully aware of the condition of the roads and the fact they need substantial repair.
“The extent of the work means that unfortunately there will be some road closures and short-term parking suspensions, but once completed residents will benefit from a smoother and less noisy road surface.”
While the work is carried out, the roads affected will be totally closed to traffic from 7am – 7pm.
Parking will be suspended to enable the maintenance team to resurface the entire width of the carriageway.
Residents have already been notified and asked to remove their vehicles during this time so as not to cause an obstruction. Any vehicles left will be towed away.
The work is scheduled to take place as follows:
- Monksdale Road, Moorlands: 8th July onwards
- Beckhampton Road and Oldfield Lane, Oldfield Park: 8th July onwards
- Dartmouth Avenue and Millmead Road including the Lyndhurst Road Junction, Twerton: 15th July onwards
- Lymore Avenue, Twerton: 15th July onwards
Due to the resurfacing work, there will be significant bus disruption.
During the Monksdale Road and Beckampton Road works, Service 8 will not be able to serve the Oldfield Park area or Hillside Road/Cotswold Road (diverting via Bear Flat).
During the Lymore Avenue works Services 12 , 20, R2 and U2 will be affected and need to divert. Service 12 will also divert when Dartmouth Road/Millmead Road is closed.
Exact diversion information will be posted on all affected bus stops.
